Continuing with his penchant for breaking series records this season, Ron Hornaday was awarded the 3rd quarter Driver of the Year 2009 distinction, a first for a truck series only competitor.
It'd be hard to make a case for anyone aside from Hornaday to bring home the honor, as the 3rd quarter was quite fruitful him and his 33 KHI team. They strung together 5 wins in a row, another first for the series, and have nearly a 200 point lead over runner up, Matt Crafton, heading into the final 5 races of the season.
In the voting Hornaday took four first-place votes. Australia's Ryan Briscoe, who drives the Penske Racing Dallara/Honda, also had four first-place votes. The NHRA's Antron Brown was third in the voting with two first place votes and 63 points. Kyle Busch, who races in all three of the top NASCAR series, had three first-place votes and finished fourth with 54 points. Denny Hamlin, Tony Stewart, Donny Schatz and Mark Martin also received one first-place ballot.
